Assign a Category
- Available categories: Education, General, Health, News, Services
Categories are the primary way WordPress organizes your blog and helps visitors navigate related content. Unlike tags, categories are hierarchical and carry more weight for your site’s structure. Every post should be assigned to at least one before publishing.
Enter Blog Text
- Use headings (H2, H3) to break up content.
- Keep paragraphs short and scannable.
- Include internal links to other Cloud 9 pages or posts.
- Include a call to action. (book now, call us, etc.)
Add a Tag
Tags are for organizing your own site, not for SEO. Every tag you create generates its own page in WordPress listing all posts associated with it — so use them intentionally and keep the list small. Too many tags creates clutter and can actually dilute your site’s structure.
Set a Featured Image
Every blog post should have a featured image set before publishing. This is the image that appears at the top of the post and on the blog homepage, and is what gets pulled when the post is shared on social media or via email.
Upload Photos with Proper File Names
SEO: Google cannot actually see images — it reads the filename as a clue to understand what the photo shows. A name like screenshot-123.jpg tells it nothing. A name like cloud9-sugar-land-foot-massage.jpg helps the image surface in Google searches and adds relevance to your page.
Organization: The WordPress Media Library is searchable by filename. Once you have hundreds of images all named screenshot-1, screenshot-2, and so on, nobody can find or reuse the right one. Descriptive names keep your library organized and searchable.
Add Alt Text to Every Image
Alt text is a short description you add to each image in WordPress. Google reads it to understand what the image shows — it’s one of the easiest SEO wins on a blog post. It also makes your site accessible to visually impaired users. Keep it descriptive and natural.
Edit the slug/URL
The slug is the end portion of your post’s URL. WordPress auto-generates it from your title, which often results in something long and messy. Before publishing, shorten it to just the key words.
Write the Excerpt
The excerpt is the short preview text that appears on the blog homepage beneath the post title. If you don’t write one, WordPress pulls the first few lines of your post automatically, which often gets cut off awkwardly. Write 1–2 sentences that summarize the post and make someone want to click.
